Whether the fun is in the baking or the giving cookies at Christmas have become an American tradition. A cookie-baking session is a great way  to get in the spirit of the season, and a gift of homemade cookies says you care. 

EASY! With this homemade cookie mix, you will have “cookies on call”

Main Holiday Cookie Mix

This is a "Starter" mix for traditional Cookies of the season. 

Course: Dessert
Servings: 4 Dozen

Ingredients
  • 12 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 7 Cups Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 5 tsp Salt
  • 4 Cups Margarine, Butter (Sweet) or Shortening
Instructions
  1. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In a seven-quart bowl or container 


    Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt


    With fork or pastry blender cut shortening into mixture until consistency of coarse meal


    Store in tightly covered container in refrigerator or freezer


Recipe Notes

Use within 4 weeks. Measure by dipping cup into mix, then leveling off. Allow measured mix to come to room temperature before adding other ingredients. Return unused mix to refrigerator or freezer.

Snow-Topped Chewy Chocolates

Ingredients
  • 4 Cups Cookie Mix See "Holiday Cookie Mix" recipe
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 Cup Nuts, Chopped
  • Powder Sugar
Instructions
  1. Combine first five ingredients in large bowl, mix until dough forms

    Stir in chocolate chips and nuts

    Refrigerate until chilled 

    Shape into one-inch balls, place 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets

    Bake at 350* Degree for 12-15 Minutes, or until firm to touch

    Cool 

    Sprinkle with powder sugar

Crispy Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
  • 4 Cups Cookie Mix "Holiday Cookie Mix"
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Egg
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in large bowl and blend until dough forms

    Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on well-floured surface and cut with floured 2-Inch cookie cutters

    Place cookies 1-Inch apart on un-greased cookie sheets

     Bake at 350* for 12 to 16 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. 

    Cool, remove from cookie sheets. Decorate as desired 

Painted Cookies:
  1. Divide 3/4 Cup evaporated milk into small bowls

    Color with food coloring

    Using small paint brush and colored milk, paint designs on unbaked cookies

    bake as directed above 

Silhouette Cookies:
  1. Divide sugar cookie dough in half 

    Color each portion with a different food coloring 

    On floured surface, roll out each portion of dough; cut with floured cookie cutters

    Place 1-Inch apart on cookie sheets

    Using small canape cutter, cut design cut from different colored dough

    Bake as directed above 

Christmas Card Cookies
  1. On well-floured surface, roll dough to 1/4- inch thickness. 

    With sharp knife, cut into 6x4-Inch rectangles 

    Place on un-greased cookie sheets

    Paint holiday messages using directions for "Painted Cookies" above

    Using a drinking straw, punch a hole in top or side of each rectangle 

    Bake as directed above

    Thread yarn or ribbon through hole

  • 1/2 Cup Dairy Sour Cream
  • Variation Colored Sugar
Instructions
  1. Combine "Cookie Mix" and sour cream in a large bowl and blend until soft dough forms. 

    Refrigerate until chilled

    Fill cookie press and form cookies on un-greased cookie sheets

    Sprinkle with colored sugar

    Bake at 350* Degree Oven for 8 to 11 Minutes or until edges are light brown 

    Cool one minute before removing

    Bake at 400* Degree oven for 12 to 14 Minutes or until firm to touch

  • 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 pkgs Hershey Kisses
  • Green Food Coloring "optional"
Instructions
  1. Combine first four ingredients in large bowl and mix until dough forms

    Add Green food coloring till light green for Elf Color, Optional

    Shape into 1-Inch balls and place 2-Inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets

    Bake at 375* for 10 - 15 Minutes or until edges are light golden brown

    Immediately place one Chocolate Kiss in the center of each cookie, pressing lightly 

    Remove from cookie sheets, cool

  • 3 Cups Cookie Mix "Holiday Cookie Mix"
  • 1 Cup Coconut, Shredded Candied
  • 2 tsp Almond Extract
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 1 Egg White, beaten
  • 1-1 1/2 Cups Coconut, Shredded Candied
  • 2 Jars Red Candied Cherries, Halved
Instructions
  1. Combine first four ingredients in large bowl and mix until dough forms

    Refrigerate until chilled

    In small bowl combine water and egg white

    Shape dough into 1-Inch balls, dip in egg mixture and roll in coconut

    Place on greased cookie sheets

    Press a cherry half in the center of each cookie

    Bake at 375* for 11 to 14 minutes or until edges are light brown

Ingredients
  • 4 Cups Cookie Mix "Holiday Cookie Mix"
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa
  • 2 tsp Grated Orange Peel
Instructions
  1. Combine first four ingredients in large bowl and mix until dough forms

    Refrigerate until chilled

    Divide dough in half 

    Blend Cocoa into one half and orange peel in the remaining half 

    Roll each half into 12x7-Inch Rectangle between sheets of waxed paper

    Remove waxed paper from tops of dough and place chocolate dough over orange dough, pressing lightly to seal 

    Remove remaining paper, roll up dough (Starting from longer side.)

    Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled 

    Slice dough into 1/4-Inch slices and place 1-Inch apart on un-greased cookie sheets

    Bake at 350* for 11 to 15 minutes or until edges are golden brown
